"Wheelie" good raffle

A RAFFLE held by residents at a sheltered housing complex in Lancing raised enough money to buy a new wheelchair.

Rose Haffenden, who found herself with lots of gifts, decided to hold a raffle at the Courtfields complex in Elm Grove.

Accompanied by her sister and two friends, they knocked on all 78 doors in the complex and sold raffle tickets to their neighbours.

The raffle, with 34 prizes, was held in the communal lounge and raised 140 towards a new wheelchair, which can be used by any of the residents.

May Dumbrell, Bessie Burnett and Mary Bottley, who are part of the group, said they would like to thank the Lancing Mobility Shop in South Street, which had made up the shortfall and provided the wheelchair.
