Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, who has a farm at Peasmarsh and a recording studio near Icklesham, recently collaborated on a song with rapper Kanye West.

This prompted fans of West to comment on Facebook with one asking: “Who is Paul McCartney. This is why I love Kanye for shining light on unknown artists.”

Another commented: “Kanye has a great ear for talent. This Paul McCartney guy is gonna be huge.”

One hip-hop fan tweeted: “I don’t know who Paul McCartney is, but Kanye is going to give this man a career with this new song.”

The remarks sparked a social media backlash from incredulous Beatles fans.

Kanye and Macca got together last year to record Only One - a love song in honour of West’s daughter North.

Sir Paul is well respected in the Rye area. He took part in a public march in the town to save the old Rye Hospital and is a patron of the memorial Hospital which replaced it.

He has supported village events in Peasmarsh in the past and has been spotted shopping in family owned supermarket Jempsons.
