‘Worst disruption I’ve seen in 27 years’

FRUSTRATED commuters have slated Southeastern for its ‘chaotic’ bus replacement arrangements.

Buses are currently replacing trains between Battle to Robertsbridge and Robertsbridge to Wadhurst as urgent repairs are carried out on the Hastings to London line.

But passengers say the buses are not linking up and not sticking to a timetable.

One commuter said: “There is a replacement bus service from Battle to Robertsbridge, then a different bus from Robertsbridge to Wadhurst. The services are provided by different bus companies and they neither match up with each other or with the trains.

“As a regular commuter I am used to disruption but this is the worst I’ve ever seen in 27 years of commuting.”

One commuter from Battle, said: “I have just waited 45 minutes on a bus at Battle to get to Wadhurst. They just seem to be going willy nilly.

“Southeastern are not talking with the bus company. There are scenes of chaos.”

A spokesperson for Southeastern said: “We are aware that there have been some issues with the bus service that has been provided and we have been working to resolve these. We are running to a plan that offers a bus service every 15 minutes, which does mean not all passengers will immediately catch a connecting train and some may need to wait at the station for the next train.

“Whilst we understand this can be frustrating, our aim is to run a frequent service that allows us to transport as many passengers as possible between the two stations.

“We are taking on board the feedback and reviewing the timetable to ensure it best meets the needs of the greatest number of passengers.”
