Worthing police appeals

BURGLARIES, thefts from handbags, a bag snatch, shop raids and graffiti are among the crimes being investigated by police in Worthing.

Pillow case burglary

THIEVES who use pillow cases to take property out of the houses they have burgled have stuck several times in Worthing.

So far in October, they have targeted homes in Heene Road, Rectory Road and Upper Brighton Road, taking items such as jewellery, cash and audio equipment.

On most occasions, they have entered the homes by doors left open or by smashing glass on the front door.

Purse thieves

POLICE are on the look out for purse thieves after several went missing from handbags in Worthing this week.

Two purses were stolen on Thursday, October 4, the first at 3.40pm in Portland Road and the second at 4pm in Goring Road outside the QS store.

On both these occasions a young couple was seen hanging around.

The woman is described as white, in her 20s, 5ft 5ins tall, with long dark hair with blonde streaks in it and wearing blue jeans.

The man is described as white and around 5ft 7ins tall.

On Monday, October 8, a purse was stolen from the handbag of a woman who was walking in High Street, between 10.30am and 11am.

Later that day, an elderly woman had her purse stolen from the Wilkinsons store in the Guildebourne Centre, at around 11.25am.

Tiffany style theft

DISTINCTIVE jewellery bearing a fake Tiffany hallmark has been stolen from a Worthing home.

The break in happened sometime on Friday, September 28, at the property in Brighton Road.

The list of what was taken includes two necklaces, two bracelets, two rings, two pairs of earrings and a star pendant on a silver chain.

A new, silver coloured Hewlett Packard laptop computer which displays an autumnal scene when turned on, was also taken.

Homeowner hit

A WOULD-be burglar was chased from a man's home after he knocked on the door, barged his way inside and hit the householder with a weapon.

It happened at around 8pm on Wednesday, October 3, when the attacker called at the property in Tarring Road.

The homeowner was not seriously hurt and was able to chase the man from the house, when it is believed he ran in the direction of Victoria Park.

Golf clubs and guitar stolen

A SET of golf clubs and a six string guitar and amplifier were taken when thieves broke into a Worthing home.

The suspects got into the house in Harefield Avenue, through an insecure window sometime between September 22 and 26.

Shakespeare Road raid

A FLAT-screen television was stolen when thieves stuck in Shakespeare Road, Worthing, on Saturday, October 6.

The television, a Samsung, was taken between 5pm and 7.15pm, after the burglars got in through a ground floor window.

Building site theft

BUILDING and computer equipment worth hundreds of pounds has been stolen from a Worthing building site.

The break in occurred at the site in West Avenue between 4pm on Friday, September 28, and 8am, on Monday, October 1.

The items taken were a Hilti laser level, two Hilti screw guns, a Pulsar fixing gun, a dumpy level, a fax phone and a computer scanner.

Kebab shop bag snatch

A TEENAGER'S handbag was stolen after she was distracted in a minor scuffle outside a Worthing kebab shop.

The 18-year-old had been out clubbing with a friend on Tuesday, October 2, and on the way home decided to stop at Uncle Jim's Kebab House in Teville Road for something to eat.

While queueing outside at around 2.30am, she and her friend were knocked to the floor when an argument broke out between other customers.

It was only when she walked over to the taxi rank to go home minutes later she noticed her handbag was missing.

Walking with knives

A WOMAN in her early 20s has been arrested after she was seen walking in the street with two knives.

Police were called to Canterbury Road, Worthing, at 8.45pm on Monday by a concerned resident.

The woman is in custody and is still helping police with their enquiries.

Beer crate thrower

A GARAGE employee was injured when a would-be thief threw a crate of beer at his head.

A man entered the BP Connect garage in Findon Road shortly before 9pm on Monday, and tried to steal a crate of beer.

But before he could leave the shop he was confronted by an employee, at which point he threw the crate at the staff member before running away.

The employee suffered minor bruising and swelling to his head but did not have to go to hospital.

Graffiti appeal

SHOPS, cars and several street signs in Brighton Road, Worthing, have been targeted by graffiti artists in early October.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Daylight raid

A MAN walked into a town-centre shop in the middle of the day and tried to steal money from the till.

But the offender was disturbed by an employee and fled empty handed. It happened at Click, in Montague Street, on Monday, October 8 at 11am.

The would-be thief is described as a white man, around 6ft 1ins tall, of proportionate build, with short dark brown hair, wearing a green puffa jacket, jeans and beige boots.

Wheelie bin rage

A TEENAGER was arrested after she was seen throwing a wheelie bin at a car.

The girl, who was with three female friends, vandalised the Mercedes which was parked in Northcourt Road, Worthing, at 10.20pm on Monday, October 8.

She is in custody and helping police with their enquiries.
