Coastguard crews, RNLI volunteers, Sussex Police officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics were pictured near the Splashpoint Leisure Centre.
Freelance photographer Eddie Mitchell took to Twitter to praise the ‘30 plus emergency service personnel attending tonight’. They were responding to concerns for a person in the water, who was rescued.
South East Coast Ambulance Service said it was called shortly before 9.30pm to Marine Parade, to ‘reports of concerns for the safety of a person in the water’.
A SECAmb spokesman added: “Ambulance crews attended alongside fellow emergency services and the person was assessed and treated after being brought to safety and taken to hospital for further checks.”
Sussex Police said it was called to a ‘medical incident’ and reiterated the man was taken to hospital ‘to be checked and assessed’.
Shoreham lifeboat deputy coxswain Adam Cairns said the ‘positive outcome was due to the great teamwork by all involved’.
A spokesperson for Shoreham RNLI Lifeboat Station said: “Our volunteer lifeboat crews helped save the life of a man on Wednesday night who was in distress in the water at Worthing.
“Our inshore lifeboat launched on service, closely followed by the all weather lifeboat, Shoreham and Littlehampton coastguard teams and Coastguard Rescue 175 helicopter to reports of a man in the water dipping below the surface.
“The all weather lifeboat arrived on scene and spotted the casualty in the search light beam approx 300m south of Splash Point.
"The inshore lifeboat made its way to the position and the crew managed to get the man out of the water and aboard before taking him to the shoreline into the care of the awaiting paramedics and police.
“If you see someone in distress in the water, phone 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
