Yapton Primary School praised by Ofsted

HEADTEACHER Mary Ramacciotti has been given good reason to celebrate ten years in charge of Yapton's school.

The latest Ofsted inspection at Yapton C of E Primary School produced a rating of good for the work of its staff and pupils.

Lead inspector Wendy Forbes said: “This is a good school. Parents particularly value the outstanding level of care, guidance and support provided for their children.

“At the heart of this school is the drive and determination of the headteacher, very well supported by staff and governors to provide the best possible education.

“Pupils really enjoy school and their overall achievement is good. Lessons show that pupils continue to develop good learning habits and attitudes as they move through the school from key stage one to two and this helps them to make good progress.

“Pupils say they feel extremely safe in school and know that teachers will help and support them with any worries they may have.”

The inspection took place last November and its publication came just before the tenth anniversary of Mrs Ramacciotti’s arrival when the North End Road school was failing and in special measures.

She said: “This is a good school with many outstanding features. I love working here and I think I have the best job in the world.

“The report showed the teaching here is good and outstanding and the children have improved in writing and maths.”

Local MP Nick Gibb, who is also the government’s schools minister, said: “I am very impressed by what I have seen at the school.

“They have had a good Ofsted report and there is a good standard of reading and maths here.”

Ms Forbes said work was needed to raise pupils’ standards in writing to match their achievements in maths, to ensure pupils are given more responsibility in lessons, to give tasks to stretch able pupils and to make more teaching consistently outstanding
