Yesterday’s World to close for good
Battle is set to lose one of its best-loved tourist attractions with the closure of Yesterday’s World.
The museum, which documents 125 years of British social living history, is to close for good in November as the owners of the attraction can no longer afford to keep it running.
Donna Bull, owner of Yesterday’s World, said: “The business has been financially struggling for quite a while.
“Last year we closed a section of it to the public to try and save on overheads.”
But despite closing one of its two buildings in an attempt to balance the books, Battle is set to go the same way as the Great Yarmouth branch of Yesterday’s World, which shut last November.
Donna said: “Neither one had been performing well for some time.”
Yesterday’s World was founded by the Buckleys nearly 30 years ago and Donna Bull and her family have owned the business for the past decade.
The attraction will shut its doors on Sunday November 1 and will not be sold as a going concern.
The building will be sold by auctioneers Barnett Ross and the contents will be sold by Chippenham Auction Rooms, which previously sold the items from the Yesterday’s World Great Yarmouth branch.
Donna said: “The contents will be removed from site in early November and the building is set to go to auction on October 27.”
She added: “It would be nice if anyone who has been here before would like to say their goodbyes before it’s all removed.
“We would like to thank all of the visitors who have been to Yesterday’s World over the years for all of their support and kind comments.”
