IT WAS lovely to see so many supporters of Battel Bonfire at our annual thank you afternoon on Sunday January 23.
Following a very successful Bonfire 2010, it was my pleasure to thank all those who contributed throughout the year.
Staging the bonfire each year requires the Boyes to raise more than £12,000 through our own fundraising events and involves hundreds of volunteer man hours. Battel Bonfire is only made possible by the hard work and enthusiasm of our members and supporters so thank you!
We do need more help every year. In 2011 we need more marshals so if you are over 18 and feel you would like to make a contribution but you don’t know how, please get in touch.
In addition I would like to thank The Kings Head Pub in Mount Street for their kind donation following a busy bonfire night.
Thanks to The Royal British Legion for support and generosity throughout the year and to Battle Club, our headquarters, for their hospitality.
And thank you to the Dean and the Mayor for your valued contribution to our events throughout the year.
Every year the money from our street collection on bonfire night is distributed to local charities and worthwhile causes; this year a total of £4060.46 was collected by a handful of hard workers.
With record crowd numbers in 2010 I feel that with more collectors the total could have been higher.
