Well done to teen who saved sheep

From: Mr and Mrs BT Hamstead, Farleys Way, Peasmarsh

A very well-deserved pat on the back to our grandson Henry Sheppard, 14-and-a-half years old, for his heroic efforts to rescue a sheep seen floundering in the River Brede on the evening of September 15.

After plunging into the cold river, he set about trying to push and pull the very heavy and terrified animal further downstream to a lower bank side. And then, with a massive effort, and mum and sister Alice’s help, managed to get her onto dry land and safety.

She promptly charged off to join the flock without as much as a ‘baa’ of thanks.

I question the need to graze flocks of sheep so close to rivers with steep banks and dread to think how many of these beautiful creatures have perished in this way.

A very lucky sheep indeed, and well done to all concerned.
