Badminton tournament reaches climax

THE Bexhill Badminton Tournament comes to a close on Sunday January 27 with its last round of finals.

William Harrington and Oliver Norris will face each other twice in the under 12s boys finals. First they will contest the singles and then Harrington will team up with Evan Gill and Norris with Jamie Dunhill in the doubles.

The popular event staged at the De La Warr Pavilion saw county star Danny Kemp complete a busy weekend of badminton by winning the men s singles A last Sunday.

Playing for Sussex earlier in the day, Kemp turned up at 10.30pm to beat Andy Penver in the final.

Other winners included father and son team Ian and John Hancock who beat Ian Carter and Dave Fletcher in the men s doubles C.

Tournament programme (January 25-27): Friday - Men s open singles; Saturday - Men s doubles B, mixed doubles A, men s over 40s singles, mixed doubles over 50s; Sunday - juniors.

Friday s matches start at 6.50pm, Saturday s at 8.50am and Sunday s at 3pm (juniors) and 5pm (seniors).
