Bexhill do neighbours a favour

Worthing took just one point from their visit to The Polegrove as an in-form Bexhill side picked up its third successive win, romping home by eight wickets after skittling out their opponents for just 84.

Captain Chris Topp said: "It was a very good result and to put a good few wins together is very pleasing. We bowled very well and we took some amazing catches."

Jeremy Wassell, Richard May and Richard Harrison were the men with the sharp hands behind square on the off side, the beneficiaries being man of the match Simon Bulteel (6-36), Dale Saunders Plumbing & Heating Services-sponsored Ian Ellis (3-45) and Topp (1-0).

The Worthing innings floundered from the moment Wassell snapped up opener Tim Dunne for just four off the bowling of Bulteel.

David Marshallsay (17), Ollie Rogers (13) and Dave Rogers (17) were the only players to reach double figures as the ball nipped about following the recent rain.

The latter Rogers, Worthing's captain, was the hardest to shift, even returning to the crease after initially retiring hurt having been struck on the elbow by a typically rapid Ellis delivery.

But he received precious little support from the tail as the final seven batsmen mustered only 27 between them.

Bexhill suffered a slight wobble at the start of their reply, losing Lloyd Waughman for three with the score on 10 and Malcolm Johnson, slightly unluckily stumped off the wicket-keeper's pad, for one to leave them 21-2.

But any tension was relieved by an unbroken stand of 67 between Josh McLean (45 not out) and the back-to-form Richard May (21 not out).

The hosts reached their meagre target in only 67 balls and the Tee K Express Newsagents-sponsored game was all over by around 4.30pm.

After struggling towards the foot of the table at the start of the month, Bexhill are now within five points of the top four.
