Bexhill won the league - which features coastal clubs from across Sussex and Kent - for the 15th consecutive year in 2015.

But this season’s competition is likely to be the toughest the club has faced in recent years. Results from the two recent pre-season events at Shoreham and Deal show that Deal RC is mounting a serious challenge to the club’s long run of success.

The league season will begin at Worthing on Sunday May 8 and crews are now busy stepping up their training to ensure the club has a strong start to the campaign.

Bexhill’s ladies’ junior four have shown some early potential in winning their two pre-season events and will be one of the favourites to take the 2016 title.

Last year was one of the most successful seasons in the club’s 123-year history. In 2015 the club won 41 races, retained the CARA men’s senior fours, men’s senior pairs and men’s veteran 50 fours titles, and rounded-off the season at the South Coast Championships by retaining the Bideford Bowl (men’s senior fours championship) for the first time in the club’s history and winning the vet 50 open and ladies’ J18 open events.

The club has signed up a number of new members over the winter and has a growing junior/beginner section. Bexhill hope to develop these members to enable them to race at the club’s annual regatta on Sunday May 22.

In order to continue to develop and grow the club as a real community asset for Bexhill, the club is desperately looking for an annual sponsor, experienced volunteer rowing coaches and donations to purchase vital pieces of new equipment.

If you are interested in helping the club in any way, you can get in touch via its website.

Bexhill Rowing Club’s boathouse is situated at the rear of the De La Warr Pavilion and backs out onto the beach.
