Challenge match moves step closer

THE much-hyped Bexhill United v Sidley United challenge match has moved a step closer to getting the go-ahead.

Sidley chairman Dickie Day has invited his Bexhill counterpart Dave Harris to attend a meeting of the Sidley committee on Tuesday February 4 when the topic will be discussed.

Both parties appear keen on pressing ahead with negotiations and Harris will donate 1,000 to charity should Sidley prevail. It is anticipated the challenge will take place over two legs, the first of which is likely to be played at Gullivers around Easter and the Polegrove return at the end of the season.

The banter between the two camps shows no sign of relenting with Sidley joint manager Peter Heritage quipping: "Even Dickie Day, Andy Laskey (reserve team manager), myself and Glen Sully could play and do well." Harris retorted: "I wouldn't have put 1,000 on the line if I didn't think we could win."
