The skipper is doing the challenge in response to the affect the Covid-19 pandemic and the affect it is having on the sport.

Haffenden is hoping to raise £1,083 - which works out a pound-a-mile for the distance - and so far has raised £165.

"COVID-19 has given everyone plenty of hurdles but cricket really has suffered. We lost virtually all of our season in 2020 and the kids really did suffer. They had almost no games or training due to the restrictions and through lockdowns and tiers - they are still unable to do anything.

"Coupled with that our cricket pavilion which is located in the Polegrove has been broken into countless times now with theft and damage meaning any spare monies we do have, have had to be spent on repairs and insurance hikes. The club is run by volunteers for the community and it has been a real struggle.

"So........I am undertaking a virtual run from John O'Groats to Lands End. This distance is 1083 miles and I am trying to raise £1083 - a pound a mile! Every time I go for a run, my distance will be added to my total via an APP so if you see me treading the pavements, all that goes towards my 1083 miles.

"I have set myself a date of December 19 2021 to have all this done meaning I need to run around 90 miles a month. No easy task but hey that's what fundraising is all about. It's not meant to be easy right....??

"All the money raised goes into helping the kids section of the cricket club so please do support me with my goal. There will be weekly updates sent out so you can track my process :)"
