Cricket quartet head to Dubai

Four cricketers with local connections have been included in the 15-man squad which travelled to Dubai for Sussex CCC’s pre-season preparations.

Michael Yardy, whose talent was forged with Battle and Hastings Priory, will be leading the side which flew out to the UAE on Tuesday.

He was joined by Matt Machan and Kirk Wernars, who both starred in Priory’s Sussex Premier title triumph last season, and Andrew Hodd, a former student at Bexhill High School and Bexhill College.

Sussex will play initially in the Emirates Airlines Twenty20 2012 Tournament, alongside Durham Dynamos, Lancashire Lightning and an MCC XI with the matches taking place at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai.

The tour’s primary objective, though, will be preparing the squad for four-day cricket with a programme of practice sessions planned, culminating in a two-day game against Durham.
