The in-form all-rounder finished 100 not out - his maiden Sussex Premier League century - as Priory lost at home to reigning league champions Roffey yesterday (Saturday).

Having lost the toss and been asked to bat in the Horntye Park sunshine, Priory totalled 206-6 from their 58 overs.

Priory lost captain Tom Gillespie for a fourth ball duck and were 15-2 after the loss of James Pooley for 15 off 16 balls. Third wicket pair Hooper and Josh Hahnel patiently took the score past 50 until the latter fell for 11.

Harry Scowen made 15 before being caught and bowled by Luke Barnard with the score 85, which subsequently became 93-5 when Joe Lamb was lbw to the same bowler.

There followed, however, a very good sixth wicket partnership of 99 between Hooper and Finn Hulbert, who followed up his unbeaten 65 against Worthing the previous weekend with 52 off 58 balls, including six fours.

Hooper went on to reach his hundred and take Priory past the 200 mark, hitting six fours and a six in a 155-ball knock. Barnard finished with 3-76 off 20 overs George Fleming 2-57 off 18.

Roffey made short work of the run chase, reaching their target in just 31.2 overs against a home attack missing influential seamers Adam Barton and John Morgan.

Priory had to wait until the score was 197 before picking up their only wicket, Bradley Payne dismissing Rohit Jagota for 105 off 77 balls. Jagota’s opening partner, Theo Rivers, finished 84 not out from 102 balls.

Priory will be back in action at Horntye Park this afternoon against the Sussex Development XI. Play will start at 12.30pm.

Standings (played 12 matches unless stated): 1 Horsham 251pts, 2 Cuckfield 236, 3 Roffey (11) 233, 4 BEXHILL (11) 215, 5 East Grinstead 194, 6 Preston Nomads 167, 7 HASTINGS PRIORY (11) 162, 8 Brighton & Hove 152. 9 Billingshurst 119, 10 Worthing 100.
