Roffey glad to have former skipper Norris back

Mike Norris has returned to Roffey from Ifield

Former captain Norris left over the winter to join boyhood club Ifield’s bid for promotion, but was understood to have become frustrated with the standard in Division 2 and has left after four matches.

Norris has been Roffey’s top scorer in three of the last four seasons, smashing close to 3,000 runs and his return could be timely with the side only passing 200 runs in a match for the first time on Saturday in a dramatic win over Worthing (see inside).

Flemming said: “Everyone was disappointed when he left, it wasn’t because of a falling out or anything, he just wanted to try something new but thankfully for us it’s not worked out down there and he wanted to play Premier League cricket again.

“He’s proved his quality in the Premier League so it’s a big plus to have him back and he seems happy so hopefully he’ll come in and have a good season for us.”

Norris played his first game back for Roffey on Sunday but failed to inspire the side into the last 32 of the ECB National Club Championships as they lost at home to Havant.

This weekend is an important double header, starting away at Cuckfield on Saturday and then against the Sussex Development XI the next day at Roffey’s Main Ground.
