After four games, Clymping sit bottom in Division 1 of the West Sussex Invitation League. A six-wicket home defeat to second-placed West Chiltington on Saturday means they have won just one of their opening four games.

Clymping, batting first after losing the toss, made 120 in 43.1 overs, before their visitors eased home for the loss of four wickets in 30.2 overs.

Salisbury said: “It was another disappointing result and being bowled out for a relatively low score again meant we were up against it.

“Unless we improve our batting as a team and apply ourselves, it will put too much pressure on our bowling and fielding.

“It is too early in the season to be worried about the league – we were top this time last year so anything can happen – but, ultimately, if we don’t put a competitive score on the table, then we will struggle.”

Clymping came up against a dangerous Chilt bowling attack as Mick Armstrong (4-46) and Malcolm Fitzgerald (3-20) ripped through their order.

Third-man in Craig Edwards top-scored with 30 and Karl Pierce added 25, but with both dismissed, Clymping stood at 78-6.

Paul Challen added 11, before a late 15 from Andy Wilkinson and 11 from Salisbury helped them push past 100.

With the ball, Clymping got both Chilt’s openers out without a run on the board, but an unbeaten 45 from Tim Jarvis and 39 from Jack Elliott-Monday saw them home comfortably.
