CUP FINAL STILL ON FOR STU'S BOYS

STEYNING Cricket Club's Jibran Khan was left to reflect that his potential match winning innings of 146 at the Sportsfield on Sunday counted for nothing. Soon after Khan had skied a catch to Littlehampton skipper Stuart Stoneham at mid-wicket, persistent rain brought a premature end to the Sussex League Cup semi-final tie which was very much in the balance.

The game will be replayed at The Sportsfield on Sunday with the winners playing Preston Nomads in the final at Horsham on August 29. If the tie is not completed on Sunday the outcome will be decided by a bowl-out.

After the two umpires, Terry Burstow and Martin Bodenham, had called the match off, Stoneham said he was disappointed that Little-hampton had not been allowed to chase Steyning's total of 228-6.

"It's very unfortunate for both sides. Even though we were facing a big total I was condfident that we had the batting to see us through," he commented.
