FOOTBALL: Arundel extend unbeaten run

HOWARD NEIGHBOUR blasted doubles against both Hassocks and Crawley Down to extend Arundel Football Club's unbeaten run to seven games.

Mullets' in-form striker has now moved on to 12 goals for the season, and has struck five in his last three matches.

Neighbour opened the scoring at Hassocks on Tuesday from Mike Huckett's first-time cross on 30 minutes. Hassocks' Nick Pitcher and Arundel striker Gary Norgate were both sent-off for violent conduct on 52 minutes, but Neighbour made it 2-0 10 minutes later.

Then, Hassocks' keeper's clearance fell to Josh Biggs, in the centre-circle, and he brilliantly lobbed home his first goal of the season.

Arundel assistant manager Simon Butler said: "We played really well, and we could have scored even more.

"Josh's goal was outstanding, and you won't see a better one. It was disappointing Gary was sent off in an incident that should have been two bookings at the most."

Alex Bryant, signed from Worthing United, made his Mullets debut after midfielder Jason Wimbleton had played in goal in Arundel's win at division-lower Crawley Down on Saturday.

With no other keeper available, Wimbleton wore the gloves and saw his side take the lead on 10 minutes when Norgate fired home a 20-yard free kick.

Down were reduced to 10 men early in the second half when Mo Shuga'a was red-carded for violent conduct towards Alex Duncan.

It remained at 1-0 until there were three goals in the final nine minutes. Neighbour put Mullets 2-0 up from 14 yards after a Josh Biggs cross on 81 minutes, but Clinton Moore reduced the deficit just two minutes later.

However, Neighbour made the game safe four minutes from time when he deflected home Norgate's shot.

Butler said: "Crawley Down are a good side and made it difficult for us, but we played well.

"Stuart Hack was excellent for us and Jason (Wimbleton) did all right, although he wasn't really pressured."
