FOOTBALL: Crazy spell costs Littlehampton in FA Cup

NAIVE defending cost Littlehampton Football Club their place in the FA Cup on Saturday.

After an even opening 20 minutes, Peacehaven flew into a 3-0 lead between the 23rd and 30th minutes.

Wes Millis fired home the opener on 23 minutes, Tom Levitt doubled the lead on 28 minutes, and Paul Dudson made it 3-0 two minutes later.

Jason Power, after a Peacehaven player had handled, pulled a goal back from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time. Then, three minutes after the break, George Gaskin made it 3-2 following a goalmouth scramble.

But, Ryan Smith soon made it 4-2 and Millis wrapped up their win two minutes from time.

Golds assistant-manager Andy Baumfield said: "We went to sleep for 10 minutes, and that has cost us the game.

"We got it back to 3-2, and I thought we'd go on to get something out of the game.

"But, while we were chasing the game, they got another goal and went 4-2 up."

The game was played at Conference South Bognor Regis Town's ground because Littlehampton Cricket Club were using The Sportsfield.
