FOOTBALL: Rustington ease to victory at Steyning

RUSTINGTON Football Club manager Gareth Davies was pleased with his side's victory at Steyning on Saturday, but still knows his side have more to offer.

He said: "It's hard to be critical when you win consecutive games away from home. But, I believe we are nowhere near where we were in pre-season.

"The lads will improve as the season progresses, I'm confident of that '” after we all learned lessons from the defeat at Wealden.

"We targeted 10 points from our opening five games, all away from home (down to cricket], and are on target, despite not playing well."

Blues had lost 1-0 at Steyning early last season, but there was no danger of a similar result this season.

Joe-Lewis Cumber and Andy Smart had two chances each to give Blues the lead, before Adam Bibb converted a 22nd-minute penalty after a trip on Kirkham.

Rustington doubled their lead a minute before half-time, when Kirkham cracked his shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Blues continued to dominate the second period, and Smart eventually made it 3-0 with a cool finish five minutes from time.

RUSTINGTON: McCarthy; Barnes, Pickford, Neal; Cumber, Bennett, Bibb, Clayton, Gibbs; Smart, S.Kirkham. Subs: Morten (Cumber 40), Cox (Kirkham 62), Hellen (Clayton 77), Harris, Tribe.
