Bexhill United’s footballers suffered their first league defeat since the opening day of the season on Saturday.
The Pirates were beaten 5-1 at home to in-form Haywards Heath Town in Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division One.
Bexhill manager Marc Munday said: “I was really disappointed with it in the end. They’re a good outfit and they were by far the better side.
“I wasn’t happy with the amount of goals and that’s something I really want to stop. But I do think the result probably did flatter them - 3-2 would’ve probably been a fairer reflection.”
Jamie Weston picked out the top corner in the ninth minute to give Heath a half time lead.
Two goals in four minutes midway through the second half put Heath firmly in command. Freddie Barker steered the ball home from a tight angle to make it 2-0 and Matt Geard curled a shot into the far corner soon afterwards.

Bexhill pulled one back on 72 minutes when Munday headed a free kick back across the box and Josh Elliott-Noye tucked the ball home.
Bexhill had George Aston sent-off for what Munday confessed was a ‘nasty’ tackle, but still had a glorious chance to make it 3-2 only for Jordan Woodley’s penalty to be well saved.
Heath added a couple more goals in the closing stages through a Rob O’Toole header from Weston’s cross and Nathan Cooper’s powerful low drive.
Munday was impressed with the performance of Woodley, who was making his debut after signing from Ringmer. He said: “He looked dangerous and to be honest he was our only dangerman. He won a lot of free kicks and they couldn’t really deal with him.”
Bexhill: Camara; Cooper (Cruikshank), G. Aston, Elliott-Noye, Tudor (Ottley); Garman, Munday, J. Aston, Buckley (Phipps); Cooper, Woodley.
