Thousands of fans will be travelling for the football match, which clashes with the London Marathon. It comes after a warning that railway engineering works planned ‘years in advance' would add to the disruption.

Miguel Delaney, chief football writer for the Independent, took to Twitter to share news of major delays.

He said: “Travel chaos to Wembley as there don’t seem to be enough tubes to cater for a marathon and a major football fixture.”

The match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Manchester United is scheduled to kick-off at 4.30pm – whilst the London Marathon began at 10am.

Sussex rail passengers have been urged to plan ahead, as the planned engineering will affect some Southern and Thameslink services.

Network Rail's Sussex route director Lucy McAuliffe said: “We plan maintenance closures years in advance and we’re sorry that some passengers making their way to the

football or to the marathon will have slightly longer journeys this weekend." Click here to read more.
