The 21-year-old has struggled for game time in the Premier League this season, and is yet to start a match in the top flight.

His three appearances to date have come from the bench, and the South American has been limited to just 43 minutes of league action.

Mac Allister had been given regular outings in the EFL Cup this term, starting all three of the Seagulls’ fixtures in that competition before they were knocked out in a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United back in September.

And after the youngster was once again forced to watch from the sidelines during Friday evening's dour 0-0 draw with Burnley, reports in his home country were quick to vent their frustration at his current situation.

Mac Allister has already earned two caps for Argentina’s senior side, and but was omitted from Lionel Scaloni’s latest squad, and the implication from Ole is that Potter’s hesitance to play him is the root cause of his absence.

At various points in their article on the matter, the South American outlet label Albion’s stalemate against the Clarets as “poor”, before stating that “without their [Mac Allister's] participation, the team is flirting with the relegation zone”.

Ole go on to suggest that Brighton are a team who are “collapsing and where not many ideas arise”.

The publication then focus in on the manager, stating: “Graham Potter doesn't give him [Mac Allister] the space someone with the number 10 on their back deserves”.

After running through his lack of opportunities since Brighton’s EFL Cup exit, the article concludes by arguing that it is this lack of “desired continuity” in the first team picture that is preventing the player from holding down a regular international spot.

Mac Allister joined the Seagulls from Argentinos Juniors in January of last year for a fee of around £7 million, but was loaned immediately to Boca Juniors amid work permit issues.

Since properly making the move to England this January, however, the midfielder has gone on to make 15 appearances in all competitions for Potter’s men, scoring three times.
