Viktor Gyokeres was always highly regarded by Brighton and Hove Albion, despite never really getting a prolonged chance to shine in the first team.

The Sweden international joined Albion from IF Brommapojkarna in 2018 and had loan spells with FC St. Pauli, Swansea City and then Coventry.

It was Coventry who decided to make a deal for the Swedish attacker permanent and agreed an undisclosed fee with Albion, as Gyokeres joined on a three year contract in 2021.

The 25-year-old has thrived in his new surroundings in the second tier and has netted 12 goals from 21 starts so far this term and is second in the list of Championship top scorers, behind Middlesbrough’s Chuba Akpom – who has 13.

Leeds United have taken note and are said to be one of four Premier League clubs to have made an enquiry on the Swede this January window. Wolves, Fulham and Everton have also been mentioned, with lowly Wolves and Everton in-particular in desperate need of goals to help fire them clear of trouble.

Brighton would benefit from any deal as it believed they agreed a sell-on clause with Coventry when they sold him in 2021.

However, Despite the interest, Coventry boss Mark Robins insists his prolific striker – rated at £15m – will remain this window. "Viktor is going nowhere," he said firmly. "I can tell you now he is going nowhere in January. Absolutely no chance. I’ve spoken to Vik.”
