Steve Bruce admitted Brighton were 'better in every department' against his poor Newcastle side.

In what was a crucial game for both teams in their battle against relegation, Albion dominated throughout and were well worth their 3-0 win.

"We were simply beaten by the far better team on the night, under pressure Bruce said.

"It was a very difficult evening for us.

"We have to accept it and take the responsibility for it. It was, at times, a little bit too easy for Brighton.

"Take nothing away from our opponents. They were better in every department."

Bruce said Newcastle had a 'big problem' with and without the ball.

He added: "We kept surrendering possession back to them.

"We all know they are a very decent football team.

"We needed to get to half-time [at 0-0] but we didn't quite get there.

"Ryan [Fraser] hit the post just after but we were well beaten by a far better team on the night."

Bruce said the performance in a game 'of this magnitude' was a 'big concern'.

"Whoever got the result tonight would feel a huge lift off their shoulders," he said.

"When you're 3-0 down, it becomes difficult to chase a game.

"It was difficult to get after Brighton and try and force our way into the game.

"I take responsbiluty, like I should. We were no where near the levels that we should be."
