The Oaklands Park boss does not think there is any prospect of the current campaign restarting and is turning his attentions to keeping his squad together and strengthening it.

City, like all local sides, have been out of competitive action since the start of November and Rutherford says there’s little sign of a return.

He says last season’s FA Cup windfall was a blessing that’s helping the club survive the extended period with no income.

“We as a club are in an all-right place and we’re just waiting for news about when we can go back,” Rutherford said.

“There’s nothing you can tell the players at the moment.

“I don’t think there is any hope of getting the season finished but I’d have no objections if teams like Hastings who have dominated the past two seasons were promoted.”

Rutherford said he did not expect competitive football to be played again at their level until the start of next season.

And he is optimstic about City’s chances of success when the resumption does come.

Chi have held their own at Isthmian south-east level since their promotion in 2019.

Rutherford said: “I’d sincerely hope we can keep all players at the club and add one or two as well. I don’t think there will be a lot of player movement between clubs.”
