Former Chelsea, Leeds United and Millwall star replaces Crawley Town's new manager at Swindon Town

Swindon Town have appointed Chelsea, Leeds United and Millwall midfielder Jody Morris as the club's new first team head coach.

The 44-year-old has penned a two-and-a-half year contract at the County Ground.

Morris has taken the reins at Swindon following the departure of Scott Lindsey to League Two rivals Crawley Town.

Lindsey left the Robins on January 11 to join the Reds on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Speaking to Swindon’s website, Morris said: “I’m incredibly excited to be joining Swindon Town as first team head coach.

“This is a great opportunity at a wonderful football club that is steeped in history, and I can’t wait to get started.

“My footballing philosophy is completely aligned with that of the club, and upon meeting Sandro, I was presented with a strategy and vision that I’m really keen to be a part of.

“We now turn our attentions to an important 19 league games, with promotion at the forefront of our ambitions, and we want to take this incredible fanbase on a long and successful journey.”

Morris previously lead Chelsea’s under-18s between 2014 and 2018, but has never managed at senior level.

He was named as former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard’s assistant manager at Derby County in May 2018.

The former England under-21 international returned to Stamford Bridge to become part of Lampard’s first team coaching staff following his appointment as head coach in July 2019.

He left the Blues in January 2021 after his old midfield partner was sacked.

Swindon visit Newport County in League Two in Morris’ first game in charge this Saturday.
