The U's led through a Jay May penalty at half time, but Herne Bay hit back to equalise with 20 minutes of the Ryman Football League Division One South fixture remaining.

United made two changes to their starting line-up from the weekend win at home to South Park, Jerome Smith coming in for Sam Cole and Sam Cruttwell for the injured Jack Harris.

The visitors started positively and May put them ahead with his second goal in successive matches, sending the home goalkeeper the wrong way with a 13th minute spot-kick.

After the floodlights finally came on at half time, Herne Bay bossed the second period and deservedly drew level when a corner made its way through to Stuart Zanone, who tapped home.

Herne Bay hit the post just five minutes later and United were firmly on the back foot, but they held on to secure a point against a team they lost twice to in the league last season.

United: Pidgeley, Davies, Watt, Rowe, Smith, Wilson, Cruttwell, Stannard, Johnson (Black), Bodkin (Butler), May.
