The U’s will travel across the Kent border to take on a Hythe Town side which like themselves is gunning for a place in Ryman Football League Division One South’s top five.

Hythe dropped to sixth after Faversham Town jumped into the play-offs with a 2-0 win at South Park last night, and are two places and two points above United having played a game more.

Whoever wins tonight will replace Herne Bay in the top five so there is plenty riding on a game which was postponed twice earlier in the year due to a waterlogged pitch.

United beat Hythe twice in the space of five days at The Pilot Field back in August, but Hythe are a very different proposition now having won 10 of their 11 league matches since Christmas.

The U’s signed Kevant Serbony from Corinthian-Casuals yesterday and the midfielder is expected to be eligible for tonight’s clash, which will kick-off at 7.45pm.

Sam Adams is struggling with a back injury and Simon Johnson hopes to be fit soon having seen a specialist about his Achilles problem. Sam Cole will play his last game before a two-match suspension.

Hythe’s squad contains three former United players in Dave Cook, Frankie Sawyer and Jack Harris, the last of whom has scored six goals since moving to The Reachfields in December.

For both clubs it will be the first of three matches in six potentially pivotal days. United will host Whyteleafe on Saturday before heading to Molesey next Tuesday night.

Ryman Division One South top 10 (played-points): 1 Folkestone Invicta 39-93, 2 Dorking Wanderers 39-77, 3 Worthing 38-74, 4 Faversham Town 39-70, 5 Herne Bay 39-69, 6 Hythe Town 37-68, 7 Molesey 38-67, 8 HASTINGS UNITED 36-66, 9 Ramsgate 39-64, 10 Corinthian-Casuals 39-64.
