JOSH Jirbandey struck in the second minute of stoppage time to give Hastings United a 1-0 win away to Leiston in the Ryman League Cup.
The United captain booked a place in the quarter-finals by applying a cool finish after a corner had been helped on by player-manager Sean Ray.
United took a squad of just 13 on the 300-mile round trip to the Ryman Division One North outfit situated close to the Suffolk coast.
Leiston had a couple of opportunities early on but found Matt Armstrong-Ford in good form between the posts.
United’s best effort of the first half was a Joe Barham header kept out by a fingertip save, while, at the other end, a superb block from Ross Sutton denied Rhys Henry.
After the break, Sutton’s long range only just cleared the crossbar, while Armstrong-Ford did well to keep out another dangerous raid.
Rye United ran out 3-2 winners away to Peacehaven & Telscombe in the fourth round of the John O’Hara League Cup.
Phil Rhodes grabbed a last minute winner after earlier goals from Sam Adams and Wes Tate at a wet and windy Sports Park.
