Loft’s season could be over

Rye United could be without influential defender Shaun Loft for the remainder of the season.

The experienced Loft, who had been captain until his recent injury and suspension, is still struggling with the foot injury sustained at Pagham last month which required stitches and left him on crutches.

And although his initial five-match suspension for his sending-off in the FA Vase quarter-final at Kings Lynn Town has now finished, Loft begins a further four-game ban on Monday for his alleged involvement in the half time fracas.

Rye manager Scott Price said: “Out of a 13-man scuffle how can you pick one player out? They reckon he instigated it, but he didn’t instigate it. He’s still injured to be fair and I’ll be very surprised if we see him again this season.”

Rye face two more Sussex County Football League Division One home matches over the next four days against Pagham on Saturday and Sidley United on Monday night, making it 13 games in 28 days.
