Newcastle defeat 'tough to take' but Duffy says 'it's still in our hands'

Albion defender Shane Duffy admitted Tuesday's late 2-1 defeat to Newcastle was tough to take but says the squad still realise they are in a strong position.

He said: “It was tough the way it ended. I couldn’t really see them scoring until the equaliser. I knew we were under a lot of pressure most of the game but I still felt comfortable. That’s probably the hardest way to take the defeat with the way it ended and how it happened.

“With ten minutes to go, we were winning and that’s why everyone was so disappointed at the end. But we know we’re in a strong position. We knew the outcome of the game, win, lose or draw, didn’t make the season.

“We knew if we didn’t win we’re still in a strong position to go on and it’s in our hands.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow's game at Nottingham Forest, Duffy said: "Forest are funny because if you look at them they've got good individual players who can hurt you on the day.

"That's what we've got to expect. They're going through a bit of a tough time at the minute but if you look at them on paper they've got two or three good strikers, so it's going to be a tough day for me if I play and we've got to be aware."
