Old boys return to haunt Hastings

TWO ex-Hastings United players came back to haunt their former club as Tonbridge Angels held on for a 2-1 win at The Pilot Field.

Fraser Logan and Ade Olorunda grabbed a goal apiece to condemn relegation-threaten Hastings to another defeat in the Ryman Premier.

The high-flying visitors made a lightning start to the contest and took only eight minutes to open the scoring. Logan, who had earlier shot wide when well placed, latched on to a Lee Browning pass to bury his finish beyond debutant keeper Seb Barton.

Hastings so nearly conceded a second when Lewis Taylor saw his drive from the edge of the box cannon back off the crossbar.

The home side slowly began to come more into the game and Harry Beautyman was only a whisker away from connecting with a diving header.

They were dealt a devastating blow just before half time, however, when loose defending following a corner allowed Olorunda - who opted to join Tonbridge at the end of last year - netted from close range.

Only a fine save by Barton prevented Browning from killing off the contest early in the second half before Lewis Perkins gave Hastings a glimmer of hope with a classy finish from Russell Eldridge’s long ball.

Olorunda’s return was cut short when he suffered a serious facial injury and at the end of the match left the ground in an ambulance.

Hastings called the shots in the closing half-an-hour which included eight minutes of stoppage time and George Porter so nearly grabbed a point when his well-struck strike came back off the upright.
