Rye boss tips Woodley to shine

Scott Price is tipping Jordan Woodley to be a hit at Rye United.

The talented but temperamental young attacking player signed for the Quarterboys at the end of last week and “looked class” according to Rye manager Price after coming off the bench to make his debut on Saturday.

Price said: “I’ve signed another Duncan (McArthur) so everyone keeps telling me. I think, probably like Duncan, it’s the frustration side of things more than anything.

“I had Jordan as a kid (with the Hastings United youth set-up several seasons ago) and he was very temperamental then. But the kid’s got talent and I think I can get hold of him, definitely. He’s a great addition.”

Woodley was released from Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of last week after the completion of a month on loan at Hastings United, who also decided not to pursue an interest in him following a couple of petulant reactions to being substituted.

But the 19-year-old’s ability is not in question and when on song, Woodley, the younger brother of current Rye player Luke, is simply too good for Sussex County Football League Division One.

Woodley’s arrival comes at the ideal time because McArthur and Liam Upton are about to start three-match bans for their red cards in the ill-fated FA Vase defeat to Three Bridges on November 19.
