Rye earn Kings Lynn trip

The Quarterboys were handed a trip to Kings Lynn Town in Monday morning’s draw - their seventh away draw in eight rounds - on Saturday March 5.

Kings Lynn were the second favourites for the competition with bookmakers Skybet before the draw was made and a crowd of more than 1,600 watched them beat St Neots Town at the weekend.

Rye produced a superb performance to win 2-1 away to Leverstock Green in the last 16 on Saturday thanks to a goal in either half from Duncan McArthur and Shaun Loft.

The Sussex County League high-flyers fell behind to a 14th minute header by Ben Butler, but equalised 12 minutes later when McArthur sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from a penalty awarded for handball.

Rye dominated the second half playing some excellent football kicking down the slope, but were denied by some fine goalkeeping until Loft headed home McArthur’s 76th minute corner.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Bexhill United boosted their promotion hopes in Division Two of the Sussex County League with a 3-0 win at home to Southwick. Kenny Pogue (2) and Scott McDonald scored the goals.

Westfield came from behind to draw 1-1 at home to 10-man Seaford via a David Pugh penalty, but Little Common’s struggles continued with a 2-1 loss at home to Clymping despite Jordan Wood’s late goal. Both teams had a player sent-off, Andrew Matthews seeing red for Common.
