Rye keep pressure on leaders

All the goals came during a seven-minute spell in the first half-hour on Saturday with Matt Maclean bagging a brace and Phil Rhodes netting the third.

Second-placed Rye remain two points off the pace having reached the halfway point in their Sussex County Football League Division One programme.

Elsewhere, seventh-placed Sidley United came from 1-0 down with 10 men to salvage a 1-1 draw away to Selsey in the same division.

The Blues went behind early in the second half and then had goalkeeper Josh Willis sent-off, but Casey Ham earned them a point from the penalty spot.

In Division Two, Bexhill United moved up to 10th after recording their biggest win of the season with a 4-0 success at home to Loxwood.

Danny Ellis and Paul Rogers put Bexhill two-up at half time before Martin Denny came off the bench to score twice and miss a penalty in the second period.

Russell Eldridge picked up his first point as Little Common player/manager with a 1-1 draw away to Oakwood. Jamie Crone’s goal lifted Common off the bottom.

Westfield lost 3-1 at home to Mile Oak to stay third-bottom. Jethro Warren pulled one back on the stroke of half time for a Westfield side which had David Miller sent-off.
