Anthony Storey is poised to make his debut for Rye United tonight (Tuesday).

The experienced midfielder signed for the Quarterboys over the bank holiday weekend and is expected to go straight into the starting line-up for the trip to Ringmer.

Rye manager Scott Price said: “He will be a big asset. He will bring valuable experience, he doesn’t give the ball away and he talks.”

Storey began his career at Championship club Middlesbrough and later joined Scottish outfit Dunfermline before injury denied him hopes of a professional career.

After moving south, he has had spells at Lewes, Eastbourne Borough, Tonbridge Angels, Hastings United and Horsham. Storey featured for Hastings in pre-season, but wasn’t retained at The Pilot Field.

While Storey is coming in, Price confirmed that Kenny Pogue and Allan McMinigal are on their way out. McMinigal rejoined the club in the summer and Pogue arrived in the latter part of last season.

Andy Atkin is expected to be fit after having the head injury he sustained in the weekend FA Cup defeat to Worthing ‘glued’ and Sam Adams should play despite carrying a knock.

Rye are unbeaten in the league with two wins and two draws from their first four matches, while Ringmer have won three and lost one of their first four. Both of Rye’s wins, incidentally, have come on Tuesday nights.

Matt Maclean will be out to continue his remarkable early season form having netted nine of Rye’s 10 goals so far this term, including seven in the last four matches.
