Little Common Football Club player-manager Russell Eldridge was ‘really pleased’ after finally getting back to winning ways.
The Commoners halted their worst run of the season with a 3-2 victory at home to Langney Wanderers on Tuesday night.
“I’m really pleased with the three points, especially after the results and performances of late,” said Eldridge. “It’s nice to get a win and it was a good performance, especially with no recognised goalkeeper.”
Eldridge was keen to see a positive response from his players to the 4-0 loss at Storrington on Saturday.
“I asked the boys for a reaction and we got that,” he continued. “We had three or four good opportunities in the first half and then went behind, and people’s shoulders slumped a little bit, but after that we started the second half really well and got ourselves a lead. We were unfortunate to concede the second goal, but we kept the belief going and nicked the winner at the end.
“We probably created more chances than we have done in the last couple of games and to put three away is good because the longer you go without scoring, the harder it becomes. They were three really different goals as well.”
Eldridge, who set up Common’s first goal, scored the second and hit the crossbar with a free kick shortly afterwards, is hoping his team will kick on from the result during a hectic Easter period when Common will play three matches in the space of five days.
“Hopefully we can build on today, and go into the weekend with a bit more belief and confidence,” he added.
“The games are coming thick and fast, and it’s important we can get some points on the board. It’s going to be tough. One day recovery in between the next three games is not going to be easy.”
