After being bought back down to earth last Saturday by Rustington, this was a chance for the Westies to bounce back. However the first twenty minutes were the worst of the season so far as Lindfield put on a finishing masterclass and flew into a four goal lead. Poor defending from set pieces and two great finishes meant the game seemed to be over before half time.

After the fourth goal went in, Westfield finally began to play. Martyn Durrant and Lee Paine both went close. Westfield did subsequently pull a goal back. Lee Paine bought a foul out of the centre half, but the referee played a brilliant advantage and George King smashed home.

Half time probably came at the wrong time for Westfield who were well on top. Roberto Martellini went close cutting in from the left. Again however it George king who stepped up. A great ball inside from Hugo Corbin, King beat a player and curled a lovely shot into the top corner from 25 yards.

Westfield were unlucky not to have a penalty mid way through the second half, a long ball forward skipped up off the awful 3G and was controlled by the Lindfield left backs arm. The referee didn’t see it in the same light.

Martyn Durrant’s free kick then hit the upright and untold amount of shots from long range all going close. Lindfield did have the chance to wrap it up on a couple of occasions, but were denied by the returning Harry Stapley.

Full time 4-2 and another loss on 3G, in the past 3 years, Westfield have lost all of their games that have been played on 3G.
