Westfield Football Club boss Jack Stapley has set his sights on a top six finish come the season’s end.

The Westies head into the new year lying eighth in Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division Two, although no other team has played more matches.

A top six finish has got to be our aim now and that would stand us in good stead for next season.

Stapley said: “At the start we wanted to win the league, but I think we under-estimated the standard of the league. A top six finish has got to be our aim now and that would stand us in good stead for next season.”

Four of Westfield’s five scheduled matches in January are at home so they have a good opportunity to make a fast start to 2016.

“We’re usually pretty strong at home and I would like to think that we’ll get four out of four home wins,” added Stapley.

The in-form Emmanuel Okunja and Adebola Sotoyinbo look to be on their way to Premier Division side Hailsham Town, but Stapley was due to cast his eye over several players from local football during a friendly against Newhaven under-21s at Lancing on Tuesday night.

With that in mind there could be one or two new faces in the side which hosts ninth-placed Ferring tomorrow (Saturday). Kick-off at The Parish Field is 2pm.
