For Hume the bowls roll

THE 43rd Bexhill Ladies' Open Bowls Tournament reached an entertaining conclusion at the Polegrove Bowling Greens.

The premier event of the ladies' singles was again won by Lorraine Hume, of Polegrove, 21-11 against club-mate Lyndsey Hodd.

The runner-up then teamed up with mother Denise Hodd to win the ladies' pairs by beating Joan Jones and Pam Alcock 22-15.

David Creed and Doreen Orr won the mixed pairs in a very close match against John Blackman and Gill Lower 18-16.

The Stevenson Cup for the local lady going the farthest without winning a singles trophy went to Lorraine Kemp and the South Coast Dairies Cup for the lady scoring the highest number of points against the singles champion was won by Rachel Mackriell.

The event, which started the previous Monday, attracted well over 100 predominantly locally-based players with a healthy smattering from other parts of the county. Next year's tournament will run from July 31-August 5.

The men have been in action all week and the 2005 Bexhill Open Men's Bowls Tournament draws to a climax on Saturday August 6 with its finals' day at the Polegrove Bowling Greens.
