Four from two on the road

ALL good things must come to an end, like Brighton's winning run at 'Fortress Withdean' last week.

Conversely, bad things must end too.

At the Liberty Stadium, Swansea, the Seagulls broke the run of defeats with a goal-less draw to collect their first away point.

No goals scored but the clean sheet against sixth placed Swansea was a much-needed result. It left Brighton in the top half of the table '“ just.

It was a happy bus home from Wales. Dean Wilkins was pleased with the performance and praised the effort and heroic defence that ensured they came away with something from the game.

Indeed, with more clinical finishing Brighton, could well have taken all three points. They hit the Swansea woodwork twice plus there were at least two other good chances.

The Seagulls' first-half performance was so good that the Swansea side were booed off after 45 minutes.

Before the game talk was of Jake Robinson's bust-up with manager Dean Wilkins who left him out of the squad.

Clearly feelings are running high but perhaps the passion for places is a good thing. I hope the outcome is positive.

On Tuesday night the Seagulls made the relatively short trip along the coast to play the Cherries.

Currently visiting Bournemouth brings back bad memories, namely the most unfortunate slip by keeper Wayne Henderson and giving away the only goal of the game in the 91st minute last season.

But everything bad was forgotten as the Seagulls plucked the Cherries by two goals to nil.

Goals from Dean Cox just 13 seconds into the second-half and the second from Bas Savage after 69 minutes won the game.

It was not the beautiful game.

Indeed Dean Wilkins recognised it as 'ugly' but was delighted with the way Brighton ground out the win. It dumped Bournemouth to the bottom of League Division One.

Bas Savage provided the cross for Dean Cox to score and it was Bas on hand for the second. Fans were treated to his 'famous' moonwalk after he bundled in the ball from all of one yard.

Brighton were always comfortable from there on.

The four points from the two away games took the Albion up to tenth on 13 points. More importantly they are just one away from the play-offs zone, and only three from second spot and automatic promotion.

OK, I know its very early days, and Leeds continue to charge up the table, now only three points behind the Seagulls and closing (having started on minus 15).

Saturday brings Bristol Rovers to Brighton and the chance to reinforce the buttresses of 'Fortress Withdean.
