Archers from clubs including Bognor, Bourne and Ditchling shot a combination of 50m and 70m rounds.

The event was hailed a huge success and plans are in place to host future tournaments at the club to encourage new archers to try their hand in a tournament.

At the end of the day, club chairman Stuart Champion presented an honorary membership to club member John Chappell, who has been a member of the club – barring a short break – since it began.

As part of the 60th anniversary celebrations, the archery club and the rifle club have revived the Spitfire Challenge, which will see members of both clubs taking on each others sports in a friendly in October with a round of archery being shot in the morning followed by a shooting contest in the afternoon.

This is sure to rekindle some old rivalries and bring the two clubs, which both shoot at Oaklands Park, closer together.
