GOLDS SUFFER BIG SETBACK

FOLLOWING THREE superb wins which had taken them partially clear of the relegation trapdoor, Littlehampton's defeat on Saturday was as baffling as it was galling.

This reverse leaves Golds fifth-bottom a win would have moved them up one place two points clear of both Southwick and Sidlesham but having played a game fewer than their rivals. Southwick also picked up three points on Saturday, winning 3-2 at Eastbourne United, now almost dead certs for the drop along with Saltdean.

The sticky, slippery conditions at the Sportsfield were never going to be conducive to Littlehampton's preferred passing style, and it was, as the game wore on, itwas all the players could do to keep their feet.
