Emma Carberry reached the final of the Sussex County Ladies’ Championship 2014 at East Brighton Golf Club last weekend.

Carberry finally came through a dramatic semi-final against 2013 champion Karen Sykes (Worthing) on the fifth extra hole. Six rounds of golf over three days took their toll, though, as she was beaten 6&4 by Alice Barnes, a one-handicapper from West Sussex GC, in the final.

The event brought together 56 of the county’s top players. The scoring reflected the breezy conditions on Friday, but the sun shone over the South Downs to give amazing views and playing conditions on Saturday and Sunday.

After the championship, Carberry and fellow Highwoods player Chelsea Masters were named in the county team for 2014.
