Hastings young guns in the fast lane

The young guns of Hastings Athletic Club produced a splendid performance on home territory last weekend.

Hastings AC achieved a very good second place finish in their final UK Youth Development League Division Two East match of the season at their Ark William Parker Academy base.

Seven clubs took part in all and Hastings AC finished seven points ahead of third-placed Worthing Harriers having held second spot throughout the afternoon. Medway & Maidstone AC - a large club with lots of athletes - were the winners.

Like all the other clubs, Hastings AC were low on numbers with a lot of athletes on holiday. But the club dominated the middle distance races, and even managed to win a couple of the throwing and sprint events.

In the under-13 age group, Jonas Judah raced to victory in the boys’ 1,500m, while Erica Body was a dominant winner of the girls’ 800m and Shannon Hopkins-Parry produced a strong sprint finish to win the girls’ 1,200m.

In the under-15 category, club captain George Pool marked his return from injury by winning the 1,500m with a performance which bodes well for the upcoming cross-country season.

Maya Ramnarine won all three girls’ events she contested. As well as winning the 300m B race, she clinched the 800m with a big PB and was part of the team which maintained its stranglehold on the 4x300m relay along with Harmony Cooper, Evie Clements and Jolie Arter.

Those were the stand-out performances, but it was another great team effort from a Hastings AC squad which really came together, with parents helping the event run smoothly as well.

Pool, Dylan Bolton, Isaac Elam and Zak Judah won the under-15 boys’ 4x300m relay, and Pool also triumphed in the under-15 boys’ B string long jump. Zak Judah came first in the under-15 boys’ javelin, a result matched by Clements in the under-15 girls’ 1,500m B string.

Noah Judah and Teddy Clements won the under-13 boys’ A and B string javelin events respectively, while the under-13 boys’ 4x100m relay team of Jonas Judah, Noah Judah, Joe Frankham and Daniel Morris came second.

Delcia Pascall also had a good day with victory in two of the under-13 girls’ sprints, winning the 150m and 75m A string races.
