Hilson's heroics take Aldwick to victory

ALDWICK'S Tom Hilson was a true hero for his side in a dramatic match at Southwick Green on Saturday.

Hilson looked like taking his side to victory before he was hit in the face and, pouring with blood, had to leave the pitch.

Despite losing his two front teeth, Hilson was keen to get back on, and when Adam Rutter was out Hilson bravely resumed his innings, making 91 not out and Aldwick won by three wickets in the penultimate over.

Aldwick had enjoyed the perfect start when, with only the third ball of the match, Charlie La Foret clean bowled Southwick opener Jim Trott for a duck.

At the other end, skipper Dave Robinson bowled a tidy spell, conceding just 15 runs in his six overs. Despite this, things improved for the home side when Paul Cannings (20) and Adam Walter (50) put on 60 for the second wicket until Ryan Hick's spin was responsible for their downfall.

At one end, Richard Galvin bowled a marathon spell of 17 overs, conceding just 40 runs, while Hicks took 3-38 and Adam Rutter ripped through the lower order with 3-23. Ollie Smith's spectacular catch contributed to the rout, and Southwick were 167 all out.

Southwick's start was even better than Aldwick's, with Steve Martin bowling Chris Redman second ball.

After another wicket fell, opener Hilson was joined by Robinson (36), and they put on 95 for the third wicket, before the match ended with Hilson's heroics.
