Horsham sign former Lewes defender Hamilton

The 28 year old has played predominantly as a right back for the Rooks over a number of recent seasons, gaining experience in the Conference South as well as the Ryman Premier.

Boss Colbran admitted he was a little surprised to sign a player he has long admired who was on the books at Derby County and also made one appearance for Queens Park Rangers.

“It’s a massive signing for us and he’s still only 28 so it’s not like he’s coming to the end of his career, he’s at his very peak,” the Hornets boss said.

“He can play anywhere across the back four and also in midfield and he’s another we’ve signed who is majorly quick, something we were missing last season.”

The latest capture takes the number of new arrivals up to nine, and with most of last season’s squad also staying on it means competition for places this year is fierce. There are also some concerns the limited playing budget may be stretched with all the new faces, but Colbran said extra money would be raised throughout the season to cover any shortfall.

He said: “Everywhere I’ve managed I’ve always wanted to bring Lewis in but in honesty I’ve never been able to afford him before. But circumstances have meant he’s available and he’s mates with the likes of Cadey (Jamie Cade) so he’s decided to come here.

“We’ve had a meeting about the budget so that’s been set, but we will have to do extra things throughout the season to raise funds and me and Gary are fully prepared to do that.”

One player who won’t be staying on is midfielder Karley Akehurst, who has decided to join Peacehaven.

Tonight (Tuesday) Horsham play in their second pre-season friendly when they travel to Epsom Athletic (7.30pm kick off).
